Samuel Cook was born on 22nd January 1931, and is popularly known as a talented pop and gospel singer, songwriter, pianist, entrepreneur and soul singer, he is credited as one of the founders of the soul music genre as it is perceived today.
Cooke's "You Send Me", "Chain Gang", "Bring It on Home to Me", "A Change Is Gonna Come" and "Wonderful World" were hits throughout the world. Apart from being an established musician, Cooke also had his own publishing company and record label.Cooke also participated in the American Civil Rights Movement.

Apart from being a solo performer, Sam Cooke had worked with many popular bands and some famous personalities such as Bobby Womack, The Soul Sisters and Johnnie Taylor.
Sam Cooke’s died in 1964. He was shot by the motel owner Bertha Franklin during a struggle in the foyer of a motel, overheard by the owner Evelyn Carr. Franklin claimed Cooke was enraged at the disappearance of Elisa Boyle a girl he had taken back to his motel room, and that Cooke had attacked Franklin who he thought was hiding her. The Jury found that this was a case of justified homicide, although the Cooke family still believes that these are not the true circumstances of his death.
