If the later seventies and the eighties saw musical shifts arising from the development of the synthesizer, the sixties and early seventies heralded the rise of the drummer in importance. Rival for drumming GOAT Stephen Morris (Joy Division/New Order) represented the shift from acoustic drumming to the ubiquitous drum machine of the eighties by creating the sound acoustically.

SEAN ONO LENNON DEFENDS FATHER'S APPEARANCE IN CITROEN CAR AD

John Lennon's son Sean has said his mother Yoko Ono allowed video footage of the former Beatle to be used in a car advert to keep him "in the public consciousness".

Footage of Lennon, filmed in his Beatles days, appears in the advert for the Citroen DS3, which you can watch below.

PAUL MCCARTNEY TO HEADLINE ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL 2010

Sir Paul McCartney is set to headline this summer's Isle of Wight festival, it's been announced.

The former Beatle will close the three day event at Seaclose Park on June 13.

Sir Paul joins previously announced headliners The Strokes and Jay-Z on the bill. The festival, which gets under way on June 11, will also feature performances from Blondie, Spandau Ballet and Editors.
