Noel Gallagher has asked to appear in court in Canada during the sentencing of the man who assaulted him on stage in Toronto in 2008.

The guitarist was attacked by crowd member Danny Sullivan on September 7, 2008 whilst he performed at the city's V Festival. Sullivan pleaded guilty in November for the attack that resulted in three of Gallagher’s ribs breaking.

On Friday (February 5) attorney Ruth Kleinhenz told the Ontario Court Justice that Gallagher has requested to be allowed to read his victim impact statement in person, reports Thestar.com. Defence lawyer John Collins asked for the request to be turned down so the guitarist could not “control the proceedings”.

The Court was postponed to pick a later date at which Gallagher may be able to appear. 

Oasis, who Gallagher left last August, postponed five gigs after the incident. 

The guitarist is set to play his first post-Oasis shows for the Teenage Cancer Trust in March.
