Dr. Feelgood
Dr. Feelgood is a British R&B band and is often seen as an influential group generally in the punk and rock scene of the 1970s. Hailing from Essex, the group is best known for its top ten hit, Milk and Alcohol. Its early singles, Back in the Night and Roxette are also widely recognised tunes by the band.

According to the band’s website, the founding members were inspired to pursue music after going to a Howlin’ Wolf gig in Ilford. Shortly after, a rag tag Dr. Feelgood was formed to play a series of gigs in Holland. On the return to the British Isles, the lineup which consisted of Wilko Johnson, John B. Sparks, John Martin and iconic frontman, Lee Brilleaux agreed they had something special and they decided to take things seriously.
At the time, the local London music scene was embracing no nonsense pub rock bands and Dr. Feelgood quickly gained a reputation for energetic performances. One journalist at the time described them as “Hiroshima in a pint glass” or something to that effect.

In 1972, they were approached to become the backing band for a reunion R&B concert that consisted of Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bo Diddly. Two years later, the band secured a deal with United Artists and released Down by the Jetty.
Its breakthrough record came in the form of a live album called Stupidity which skyrocketed to the number one spot on the UK charts. Johnson, the core song writer, decided to leave the band and was replaced by John Mayo. The last real chart success the band experienced was with Milk and Alcohol, a deep and simplistic rock tune.
In the 80s, there were numerous lineup changes and little chart entries but the band continued to be a sought-after live, touring act. In 1994, Brilleaux lost his battle with cancer at the age of 41.
The band wasn’t sure whether to carry on and decided that fans deserved the real Dr. Feelgood rather than the tribute acts that were coming out of the woodwork. They recruited Pete Gage but eventually settled on Robert Kane who did a stint as the front man for the The Animals.
Kane is still with the band and has racked up an impressive 1200+ live performances with the group including the annual concert that takes place in memory of Brilleaux .
A rockumentary type film called Oil City Confidential, which tells the tale of Dr. Feelgood’s early days premiered in October 2009. It received a standing ovation.

Whilst still at university, Orbison met Pat Boone, a musician who encouraged him to form a band. It was through this band and their early performances that Orbison met a young Johnny Cash, who helped him get his material to the owner of Sun Records. The result was Orbison’s 1956 single 'Ooby Dooby'. Following his success, Orbison went on to compose 'Only The Lonely',a tune he recorded himself after it was rejected by the Everly Brothers and Elvis Presley. It was the success of the record that prompted a string of hits, including 'Pretty Woman' and 'Cryin’'.
In 1966, Orbison was left stunned by the death of his wife Claudette in a motorcycle accident and shortly after his house burned down in a fire killing two of his three sons. Orbison busied himself with a grueling touring schedule to deal with his personal demons and re recorded a collection of his past hits for a retrospective album. It wasn’t until 1987, after years of touring, that Orbison’s career enjoyed a revival, when he collaborated with popular artists such as Bruce Springsteen, KD Lang for a live concert which was then released under the title Roy Orbison and Friends, A Black and White Night.

Orbison’s next venture saw him teaming up with Bob Dylan, Jeff Lyne and George Harrison to become the Travelling Willburys, in which they performed masquerading as a band of brothers. The band enjoyed commercial success and led to Orbison recording his final solo album, 'Mysterious Girl', spawning the worldwide hit 'You Got It'.
Orbison tragically passed away in 1988 at the age of 52, after suffering a massive heart attack.
In January 1989 he posthumously became the first musician since Elvis Presley to have two albums in the Top Five at the same time.

Despite his modest solo career, he persevered and created a body of work that is both critically acclaimed and massively influential for many singers, songwriters and guitar players.
His humble beginnings were in Tennessee where he played in a little band with his brothers. After hearing Elvis on the radio in 1954, Perkins drove down to Memphis to audition for the legendary record producer, Sam Phillips of Sun Records.
In 1956, he released Blue Suede Shoes that made him the first white, country artist to cross over on to the R&B charts. The song would alternate with Presley’s Heartbreak Hotel for the top spot. Eventually, Presley would record his version of the song.
Perkins’ career basically hit a nosedive even though he had some minor rockabilly hits in the form of Boppin’ the Blues and Your True Love. But it wasn’t until 1964, when he realised that The Beatles admired his music.
He went on to supervise the Fab Four’s recording of five of his songs including Matchbox, Honey Don’t and Everybody’s Trying to Be My Baby. Rick Nelson and Patsy Cline also covered Perkins’ songs.

The rockabilly style was beginning to wane so Perkins decided to concentrate on country. He wrote the #1 hit Daddy Sang Bass for Johnny Cash and joined Cash’s touring group in 1969.
For the next twenty years, he continued to write for others and release his own material. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Perkins eventually passed away in 1998.

Jerry Lee Lewis
Jerry Lee Lewis was born on 29th September 1935. ‘The Killer’ Lewis was at his peak during the late fifties until scandal almost ruined his career when it was revealed he had married his 13 year old cousin. He was infamous for his extreme stage act having taken rock and roll music to new theatrical heights as he climbed over and seemed to wrestle his piano, even apparently setting fire to it on one occasion (eat your heart out Jimmy). His most well known track being "Great Balls of Fire".
He was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. Likewise the Rockabilly Hall of Fame also honoured him. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Jerry at 24 in their list of ‘100 Greatest Artists of All Time’.
His life has been peppered by controversy including the underage marriage, alcohol problems, stage fright and paranoia.
During the early sixties it was almost impossible for him to regain his previous status, but as the years passed he was able to reestablish himself somewhat.

Albums include "High School Confidential", "Live at the Star Club", "The Return of Rock", "Hamburg", "Memphis Beat", "Another Time", "Another Place", "Still Comes Around", "Sings the Country Music Hall of Fame Hits (Vol. 2)", "She Even Woke Me Up to Say Goodbye", "There Must Be More to Love Than This", "Last Man Standing" and so forth.
He returned to the charts initially with Country Music in 1968, has had 47 singles and 22 albums in the Top Twenty US or UK Pop or Country charts including 14 #1 hits and 10 gold disks. His biggest selling album of all time was the 2006 release 'Last Man Standing' which sold over half-a-million copies and won him his latest gold record.
